How we make our flutes

Machining the initial timber

Creating the flute blanks and cutting the voice box

Gluing flute blanks together into initial square form, including gluing the mouthpiece in

Hand branding our logo into each flute body

Turning the flute round and drilling the mouth hole

Sanding and prepping for first dip

Dipping process

First tuning the flute by length

– 9 –

Drilling finger holes and completing the Second tuning process by tuning each finger hole to the desired scale

– 10 –

Leave flute to acclimatise overnight and check tuning the next day, completing the third tune by making any necessary adjustments

– 11 –

Brand finger holes with hot branding iron as per traditional practice

– 12 –

Sanding the flute ready for the final dip, removing any burrs in the bore and finger holes for sound clarity

– 13 –

Hand signing the flute with a pyrography pen and adding the flute Key and serial number

– 14 –

Final dipping process

– 15 –

Final check of tuning

– 16 –

Lightly sand externally and buff with bees wax on the lathe

– 17 –

Enter measurements and flute details into stock

– 18 –

Add complimentary block and cord ready to be sold
